VOLUNTEER APPLICATION PROCESS
HOW TO APPLY: Please complete
this application in its entirety. Your application will be forwarded to
the Volunteer Coordinator for processing.
HOW YOU ARE CONTACTED FOR AN INTERVIEW: After
your application and references have been reviewed, we will contact you
to arrange a convenient time for an interview.
CONFIDENTIALITY: From time to time volunteers
may obtain personal information about patients, staff and other volunteers.
Volunteers must not disclose such information without the permission of
Avalon Hospice & Palliative Care, both during and after voluntary
service. Failure to adhere to this may result in your volunteer work being
terminated.
VOLUNTEER TRAINING/OREIENTATION: All volunteer
are required to complete volunteer training. Volunteers will receive training
appropriate to the tasks assigned. Training will include orientation and
basic volunteer training as a minimum, and may include advanced training
and/or on the job training. During the orientation we will provide a description
of each volunteer opportunity as well as its availability and requirements,
discuss necessary health clearance, safety and security issues. It is
important for you to realize what impact working in a hospice environment
will have on you and that your commitment is vital if we are to effectively
serve the needs of our patients.
BEREAVEMENT: Due to the sensitive nature
of work at Avalon Hospice & Palliative Care, it is felt that the reasonable
length of time for the bereavement process to reach its conclusion is
1 year; during this time we do not employ voluntary workers.
VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES: There are five main
areas of volunteer opportunities: direct patient contact, semi-direct
patient contact, customer service, administrative support, and special
projects.
